What is cPanel Web Hosting?
For your information, it's useful to be aware that the majority of the cPanel Web Hosting offerings on the contemporary web hosting market are supplied by a very insubstantial business segment (as far as annual capital flow is concerned) dubbed hosting reseller. Reseller website hosting is a sort of a small marketing niche, which provides a great quantity of different web hosting brand names, yet furnishing the very same services: chiefly cPanel web hosting services. This is bad news for everyone. Why? Because of the fact that at least 98 percent of the web hosting offers on the entire web hosting market offer precisely the same service: cPanel. There's no variety at all. Even the cPanel-based Web Hosting prices are similar. Quite identical. Giving those who demand a top web hosting service practically no other web hosting platform/web hosting Control Panel choice. So, there is just one fact: out of more than 200,000 hosting trademarks all over the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than 2 percent! Less than 2%, note that one...
200,000 "Web Hosting corporations", all cPanel-based, yet uniquely named
The Web Hosting "variety" and the website hosting "offers" Google presents to us come down to merely one and the very same solution: cPanel. Under 100's of 1000's of different web hosting brand names. Imagine you are only an ordinary person who's not very well aware of (as most of us) with the web page development processes and the website hosting platforms, which actually power the different domain names and sites. Are you prepared to make your hosting selection? Is there any web hosting alternative you can select? Sure there is, today there are more than two hundred thousand website hosting providers in existence. Formally. Then where is the problem? Here's where: more than 98 percent of these 200k+ different hosting brand names all over the world will offer you strictly the same cPanel website hosting Control Panel and platform, named differently, with absolutely the same price tags! WOW! That's how immense the variety on the current web hosting market is... Period.
The Web Hosting LOTTO we are all participating in
Simple mathematics reveals that to come across a non-cPanel based web hosting service provider is a colossal strike of luck. There is a less than 1 in 50 chance that a phenomenon like that will happen! Less than 1 in 50...
The pros and cons of the cPanel-based Web Hosting solution
Let's not be unfair with cPanel. After all, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was trendy and possibly satisfied all web hosting business requirements. In short, cPanel can do the trick if you have only one single domain to host. But, if you have more domains...
Problem Number 1: A foolish domain folder arrangement
If you have two or more domain names, however, be extremely attentive not to remove fully the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will dub each subsequent hosted domain name, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domain names are very easy to erase on the web hosting server, since they all are set up into the root folder of the default domain name, which is the quite well known public_html folder. Each add-on domain is a folder situated inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to remove the files of the add-on domains, please. Observe for yourself how marvelous cPanel's domain folder configuration is:
public_html (here my-default-domain.com is placed)public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain)
Are you becoming puzzled? We doubtlessly are!
Weak Point Number Two: The same email folder structure
The email folder configuration on the server is precisely the same as that of the domain names... Making the very same mistake twice?!? The admin blokes firmly increase their faith in God when tackling the e-mail folders on the e-mail server, praying not to mess things up too seriously.
Predicament Number Three: A sheer shortage of domain administration interfaces
Do we have to refer to the complete absence of a contemporary domain manipulation platform - a place where you can: register/migrate/renew/park or administer domain names, edit domains' Whois details, protect the Whois details, change/set up name servers (DNS) and Domain Name System resource records? cPanel does not offer such a "modern" user interface at all. That's a big shortcoming. An unforgivable one, we wish to point out...
Shortcoming No.4: Numerous login places (minimum 2, maximum 3)
What about the demand for another login to utilize the billing, domain name and tech support administration section? That's aside from the cPanel account login credentials you've been already supplied by the cPanel-based Web Hosting service provider. At times, on the basis of the invoice transaction tool (principally conceived for cPanel solely) the cPanel Web Hosting firm is utilizing, the earnest clients can wind up with two additional login locations (1: the invoicing/domain name management section; 2: the ticket support GUI), ending up with a total of 3 user login locations (including cPanel).
Weakness Number Five: More than 120 web hosting CP menus to grasp... quickly
cPanel presents to your attention more than one hundred and twenty menus inside the web hosting CP. It's an excellent idea to learn each of them. And you'd better memorize them fast... That's quite insolent on cPanel's side.
With all due appreciation, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel Web Hosting vendors:
As far as we are informed, it's not the year 2001, is it? Remark that one as well...
